Laser Wart & Verruca Treatment

laser nail infection

Warts and verruca are small growths on the skin. They are caused by a virus  called the human papilloma virus. The virus  causes a proliferation of small blood vessels to feed the wart or verruca . Warts can occur anywhere on the body but occur most commonly on hands and feet. They range in size from 1 mm to over 1 cm. The shape and size of warts vary, and they are sometimes classed by how they appear. For example:  plane (flat) warts, filiform (finger-like) warts, mosaic warts, etc.

Verrucas are warts that occur on the soles of the feet. They are the same as warts on any other part of the body. However, they may look flatter, though weight bearing.

What is the most effective way of treating warts and verruca?

There are many ways to treat warts and verruca, ranging from over the counter products to professional treatments such as freezing or lasering.

“…Cutera  Long pulsed ND Yag therapy rapidly heats the warts and their blood supply to very high temperatures…”

Long pulsed laser ND Yag therapy refers to a type of Lasering correctly known as ‘lasing. It’ is at this moment in time probably the most effective treatment for warts an verruca. This is because lasing destroys the blood supply to the wart or verruca as well as denaturing the DNA of the virus. In a recent study that evaluated the effectiveness of laser therapy for the treatment of warts and verruca 369 patients with persisting warts and verruca were treated with laser therapy. 96% of patients were cleared of their warts and verruca . These results were obtained from between one to four treatments .The clearance rate of verruca was 72.6% after one treatment.

The Barn clinic was the first clinic in the UK to use the Cutera long pulsed ND Yag laser for the treatment of verruca.

The Cutera laser has really revolutionised the way in which verrucas are now treated. People with resistant verruca no longer need endless courses of painful unpredictable treatment. Lasing, unlike other treatments  generally only requires one treatment.  Lasing involves one moment of discomfort (20 miliseconds to be exact). Pain or complications after treatment are very rare.

How much does lasing of verruca cost?

The cost to lase between one to two areas that are no greater in diameter than 5 mm is £150. If more than one treatment is required the following treatments are performed at £75. If you have multiple warts and verruca a quote will be determined at your first appointment.
